life as a 21-year-old...

Wow, I haven't blogged in like, what? Weeks? What have I been up to? Honestly, not a whole heck of a lot, when I sit down and think about it. Cody, Katie, and I hauled Keith and Arnold to the livestock barn in Winger on April 13th (I love going to the livestock barn, but we didn't stay for the sale; also, long day to be in the pickup for 4 hours with a birthday hangover) and the pigs went to New Folden to get butchered on the 18th. And, yes, they were both spoken for. So now we are down to just 4 chickens. I feel kind of bad that I had been somewhat neglectful on the animals the last few weeks before they left, so I told my dad that we probably need to get some more cows soon. I have my heart set on a Hereford and a Charolais, but we'll have to see...

I've also been working my 3 days a week at AgCountry, and I love it more and more each time I go in. I'll be sad to leave in August...

Mostly, though, I have been fully investing in the perks of being a 21-year-old. For example:

HH at the Bou with my aunt | 4.18.13

GNO Kittson bar hopping | 4.19.13

GNO Kittson bar hopping | 4.19.2013

Fargo for DFC Spring Brawl | 4.20.2013

HAIRBALL at the Alerus Center (they were amazeballs) | 4.26.2013
Slims in Bemidji | 4.27.2013
Pull tabs at Hard Times | 4.28.2013
So, everyone that told me being 21 is not all that it's cracked up to be: YOU. WERE. WRONG. It is flipping AWESOME.

That's all for today.

21 21 21 21 21 21 21!

FINALLY -- the moment I have been waiting for my whole life! Does anyone else remember their first drink? Mine was a Mike's pomegranate, and it was at the *senior party* my junior year of high school. I remember thinking, "I'm pretty bad-ass, getting away with drinking booze! My parents will never know!" Ha-ha (yeah, right). (Also, Mike's pomegranate would probably be the last thing I would opt for now...)

First things first, I saw this on Pinterest just before I was going to publish this post, and I had to include it:

VIA

I'm making this my mantra from now on. So, watch out people, I'm going to make a few mistakes in the next 12 months. And happily so :) until this point I have worried to much about being perfect and planning for the future (getting married, becoming a mom, living in Kittson til they plant me, etc.) but I will NO LONGER BE FRETTING. It'll happen if/when it's supposed to happen. In the meantime, I'm just going to do whatever I want. Moving on...

Like I do every year, I felt very loved + spoiled on my birthday. To everyone who sent me a text or gave me a call or sent me a birthday wish on Facebook, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Here are some of my favorite birthday goods:

SNUDDA LAZY SUSAN from Ikea. Yes, I have finally hit the age where it is cool to get household items as birthday gifts. I found this when we were in the cities for my brother's hockey tournament, and fell in love. It reminds me of my grandparents' house because they have one on their kitchen table, and I'd never been able to find one before. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough? My aunt went back and picked it up for me! THOUGHTFUL cards. I love how colorful they are when they're arranged like that! LET'S BLOG SOME SHIT journal. My mom knows me so well :) FLOWER POWER BIKINI from Urban Outfitters. This was a gift from me to myself; it just happened to arrive in the mail on my birthday. Now if only all the snow would melt so I can wear it. Love the vintage-y-ness!
Does your family have any traditions for special days in the year? On birthdays (and Mother's Day and Father's Day) my family breaks out the red "you are special today" plate and serves breakfast in bed! I'm pretty sure the only time in my whole life that I didn't get breakfast in bed on my birthday was when I wasn't living with my parents. See, there are lots of perks to living at home! This is a tradition I hope to carry on with my own family someday:

B IN B.
My 21st was celebrated Kittson-county style, which is right up my alley. I had supper at the Bou with 21 (ha, ironic!) friends and family members, and, afterwards, a few of us headed over to the Liq. I wouldn't have done it any other way. Here are some of my favorite pics from the night:

I'm so excited about being 21, and it's not even about going out and getting sloshed all the time. It's about having the OPTION to. Haha, just kidding, but it'll be nice to be able to go to certain restaurants (I still have yet to experience JL Beers) AND I have some of the most fun weekends planned coming up, which will be made more fun by being legal!

Something kind of cute and funny: when I first started going to parties back in high school, my parents would always leave the entry light on for me so I wasn't stumbling around in the dark when I got home. Then, I moved to college, and when I would come home on the weekends, the light was never on! However, this weekend, they left it on BOTH Friday and Saturday! And hey, kudos go out to those two for having me on a Sunday, with just the right amount of leap years for me to have my 21st on a Friday. High five guys, nice work.

Annnnnnd that's all for today!

the HANGOVER kit | happy birthday, haley!

In honor of her 21st birthday, I put together a "hangover kit" for my best friend! I saw a few of these floating around on Pinterest, and it got me to thinking...what really DOES cure a hangover?

Chocolate milk. Naps.

Unfortunately, those two things cannot be contained in an ice cream pail, like the one I used to package her gifts. Hey, I figured she could maybe use it as a puke bucket...like if she got the flu or something.

I included: a mini hair brush, travel toothpaste + toothbrush, pony tail holders, chap stick, mini deodorant, a McDonalds gift card, Sprite, gum, band aids, eye makeup remover wipes, and a little bottle of Aleve!

DRINK+DESSERT
MY BEST FRIEND.
Hope you had the best 21st birthday imaginable, Hales! Just 4 more sleeps til mine! LOVE YOU.

Love,

Kalli

OH HAPPY DAY.

Last Thursday [March 28th] I learned that my position at AgCountry is being extended through August 15th.

No weekends + evenings as a 21-year-old without a college degree? WAHOO MOUNTAIN DEW.

I will be reception-ing 3 days a week -- Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Also, my 21st is in 11 sleeps!

And that's all for today.

:)

Love,

Kalli
